Battle of the Sexes by JelloJolteon2000 Battle of the Sexes by JelloJolteon2000
AKA Battle of Yggdrasil, Battle of the Axes, or whatever else you'd like to consider them representational of.

EDIT: Due to a person who shall remain anonymous, I wish to remind everyone of the fact that all views expressed in this commentary are explicitly my opinions and are not reflective of the opinions of the rest of the fandom. I am as free to think for myself and hold opinions as you are, no matter how "wrong" they may be. Thank you. :)

...You know, why do all the mascot legendaries after gen II have to be mad at each other? Groudon and Kyogre was fine, that stuff actually happens, but Dialga and Palkia? What? I'm pretty sure time and space work together and Reshiram and Zekrom was just kinda... eh. I mean, I understand that there was a point there, that you can have BOTH truths and ideals, but goodness, those brothers were pretty durn stupid.

But this is kind of asking for it. You know these two will at some point have been/be/will be at each others throats, the way I understood them as the X and Y chromosomes. This leads to some irony, as I am willing to bet that if they do gender them 100% like I think they will, a la Cresselia, Yveltal is going to be female despite being Y. I dunno, it just looks more effeminate than, y'know, a MALE deer. With a crapton of antlers. What is that? A 16-pointer?

...I'm getting off track.

Besides, Xerneas sounds more manly than Yveltal.

Anyway, I'm really loving how this turned out; it's just so close to what I wanted! ^^
If you'd like either of them individually, I can easily take this apart with them individually, transparent, or with background. Feel free to use it, just give me credit!

Well. Look at it in my point of view.. Xerneas is a fairy type- yes, but it also has full head of horns. Its body type represents that of a male deer; At least in my point of view. (kinda reminds me of the great prince from Bambi.. - cough-)

Where as Yveltal has a very feminine body, and seems very close to that of a female anyhow. The name. The looks.

In my opinion, Yveltal is female, because from what I've seen. The majority of pokemon featured on the show (or manga) are mainly males. Which strikes me so.

To me, most of the legendaries seem to be male, too. I think it'd be nice for a time for a female legendary to pop out of the blue and claim it's place!~

Don't you agree?

Haha I do! I haven't looked at the battles too closely, though they're probably confirmed genderless by now.

:WARNING: WHAT IM ABOUT TO SAY MAY BE VERY STUPID. IF YOU HATE STUPID SUGGESTIONS, IGNORE. :WARNING:

What if Xerneas will be Rainbow-Type and Yveltal Sun-Type? (Might as well make a Shadow-Type, and a Moon-Type XD I'm an idiot.) Yes, I know, it's very stupid. But it just might happen, ANYTHING is possible!

If you think I'm a complete insane idiot, feel free to say it in all caps. :meow:

I doubt they´ll have genders, since they´re mascots and that´s never happened,as far as I recall. Then again,it could be an interesting change I think I´d like that.
I agree with the notion that Yveltal should be female and Xerneas male if that happens.
Great,great job here!

Thanks a bunch! I figure that the games are taking such new approaches that gendered mascot legendaries might be possible. If not I'm not going to be devastated though.

It sure would be something if the Y chromosome mascot ended up being female, but I don't really want the deer to be female because of, as you said, the antlers. Then again, look at stantler and sawsbuck, the females have antlers, maybe all the deer in the Pokemon universe are just variants of reindeer?
Santa used a stantler before. :P

Stantler seemed like more of a reindeer, but I think they just got too lazy with genders on Sawsbuck because they were more concerned about the seasons gimmick. Sawsbuck looks like the deer I almost run into while driving. XD

Oh, and the name Deerling for its pre-evolution is just downright boring and lazy. I don't really see why they couldn't have gender differences anyway, since they are implemented.

I don't even know. They were probably too stuck on the whole tree branch=antlers thing and couldn't think of a nice way to display the grass type on a deer otherwise. I know I probably would have been.

Yeah, the only alternative I could think of would be to make the body very bush like, but they might as well make it a sheep then.

I've got less of a feeling toward the gender specific relation to rather a light and dark relation.
With the addition of X and Y they're only planning for a Z, which has more in common with the fact that the 3D aspect of the 3DS adds a 'Z' axis of depth to the game. I don't think there's going to be anything about gender clashing in this one.

On the other hand, I do speculate that with the way that they presented Yveltal as blocking out the sun in his intro, and that Deer thing coming in to the scene by lighting up the area with its rainbow horns... It leads me to believe that Pokemon may be introducing a Light element into the mix of useable types. The two pokemon may represent something along the lines of good and evil or anything like that. All the rainbow colors, the different light variations on the antlers, lead me to think that they might do that. They did say that this was an evolution on the series, not only the 3D but probably something else too.

This is just a theory though. Hope I'm right. I liked the Light pokemon and Dark pokemon in the trading card series. It'd be cool to see them here too.

Like I've probably stated a million times already, the only reason I see genders coming into play would be because of the appearance of a DNA stand in each of the logos of the Japanese games. I don't even want battling of the two, I just think that it's way too convenient to have a gender clash if they put any indication of genetics in conjunctions with X and Y. Maybe that's just my inner biologist. Had there been no DNA appearing in the logos, I would have probably gone with the theory of X and Y as the axes for my primary theory. Either way, there's definitely a lot of interpretation for two letters!

I like the light and dark concept, that's a nice note of symbolism and certainly yet another that makes sense. Admittedly, I can't say I'd be looking forward to a light type (for one my fakedex would just be ugh) but it wouldn't be a game-ruining experience. I think I would be more ready to accept it as a type if it was weak to grass and not strong to dark, just neutral.
As for the cards, I did like that idea as well. I hate to say it, but I personally don't think they'd make a return of it simply because it was something so small in one of the smaller sects of the franchise (which, naturally, is still pretty big).

I was thinking more of a gender-role reversal, but you know anime - always terrible with gender equality. Just look at the female characters and protagonists! I mean, seriously, when are we gonna get REAL pants? D:<

i totally agree about the antagonism, and i really hope that it will be a good one, the battles i mean. zekrom vs reshiram were pussies, it was a pillow fight, at best. 'strongest dragons', my arse dialga vs palkia was great, but its just basically your everyday pokemon battles using huge, intimigating dragons. they barely show the power that they should have as the gods of time and space. groudon vs kyogre, EPIC. though the battle was very short(and i mean 5 min short), it realy showed to you what legendary pokemons are capable of. i mean, kyogre whips up a whitebeard-scale tsunami almost casually and then groudon proceeds with vaporising it with a kamehameha-level solarbeam/hyperbeam. FRIGGIN' TITANIC.

I think that it's way too overused and that they should have the legendaries getting along or not even interacting with each other for a few gens or something so that the fighting seems less obligatory.

It certainly would be. I don't think it will come to fruition since we're not yet (unfortunately) above it and it's certainly a very hot issue. I do believe, however, that they do have some form of relation to the X and Y chromosomes, hence the title.
